The View

A Poem

The view here is obstructed

An enslaved island in the

Midst of nowhere Ohio

surrounded by a sea

of backwater ignorance

white trash culture

power tools screaming

into the dusky sky

somewhere beyond scope

a trailer has become a

Remote learning facility

for amateur chemists

cooking product to

sling at seedy bars

where they still don’t

take kindly to outsiders

where they are all so

proud to be an American

The view here is broken

by a thick walnut trunk

bisecting erected steel

siding blocking out all

Of the horizon’s edges

beyond that are the screams

for Gavin to swing

for Gavin to run

for Gavin failing fantastically

at trying his best

finally something my being

wholeheartedly understands

The view here is encased

by bitter perspective

and leaf clogged gutters

untended lawn work

beckoning for affection

it all serves as a reminder

that no matter what

one man does to his

little piece of paradise

life will always render

his presence obsolete
